BÉTEL house and shop in Kralupy

BÉTEL CZ runs the community house and charity store in a one hundred year old barn building in town Kralupy near Prague (22 km North). We provide accommodation and care for broken people with great needs. We help people to break free from addiction and start over again.

It began in Spain in the inner city barrio of San Blas, Madrid almost three decades ago when a small group of Christian missionaries from WEC International , a worldwide missionary organisation, began to care for the needs of a few drug addicts and marginalized people. Today it‘s program and communities can be found in over 100 urban areas in over 20 nations: Spain, Portugal, France, England, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Belgium, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia, Finland, Australia, India, Nepal, Mongolia, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, Kazakhstan and the coast of North Africa. While each Betel community has developed its own identity and personal approach in applying the Betel program to the needs of their people, Betel worldwide embraces the same principles and shares a common ethos. Betel’s ethos is founded in historic, mainstream Christianity, thus we put our emphasis in the restoration of personality that is found in the gospel. Whilst Betel residences and churches operate on Christian values and practices, anyone, regardless of race, gender or religion is welcome to participate in the life of each community.
One of Betel’s main principles is that entrance to any of it’s communities should be accessible to everyone, regardless of financial means. Betel aims to be as self-supporting and sustainable as possible, allowing us to provide completely free residences to people who would otherwise have no opportunity. We receive no statutory funding, the majority of funding for daily operations is generated through our charitable businesses and workshops in which we train our residents in skills to contribute to the lifestyle of the community. We estimate that our centres in more than 20 nations save governments and families tens of millions each year in reduced costs to society. An additional source of funding is through the donations we receive from individuals, churches with whom we partner, companies and other charitable organisations.
In response to the unprecedented breakdown of social order, we have worked to reduce homelessness, long-term unemployment, violence, addiction, crime and the civil insecurity associated with the disintegration of the family. We have received testimonies from individuals, families, judges, police and government officials of how the work of Betel is changing lives and impacting entire neighbourhoods in multiple nations.
